The Transplant Games of America were held in Dever, CO in June.  Nancy Jasso from TLC (and Team Georgia) competed in the 20 Kilometer bike race.  

 

Anyone that knows Nancy is aware of just how special these games and this event were to her.   There was a time when Nancy thought she may never breathe without the aid of oxygen ever again.  When Nancy was sick with cirrhosis, from alcohol related liver disease, she contracted hepatopulmonary syndrome, requiring her to be on oxygen for over 20 months (with 4 of those being after transplant).  Even after receiving her transplant on June 10, 2019, Nancy could have never dreamed she would be competing in a bike race that was not only 20 kilometers, but also at the Denver altitude of 7000 ft.    

 

But this race was more than just a bike ride for Nancy.   Nancy’s father was a passionate, long-time bicyclist and a well-known figure in the cycling community.  He was a dedicated member and former president of the Princeton Freewheelers ((www.princetonfreewheelers.com), famously leading more annual bicycle rides than any other member for a 15-year stretch.

After the ride, Nancy said "I didn't come in first, but I had the time of my life".

Nancy we are so proud of you for reaching for your dreams and making them happen.  What a great way to honor your father’s legacy and your organ donor.    Thank you for showing us what if means to take on a second chance of life with full throttle.
